Dubai police warns parents of children riding motorcycles, gives hefty fine warning

In a recent announcement, Dubai Police issued a stern warning to parents following concerning reports of children being sighted riding motorcycles on the emirate’s main roads and putting other road users at use. Highlighting the severe risks posed not only to the youngsters themselves but also to other road users, the authority emphasised the imperative need for parental vigilance and responsibility.

The General Department of Traffic at Dubai Police underscored the hazards and dire consequences of such actions, laying the onus on parents for their failure to supervise their children’s conduct. Major General Saif Muhair al-Mazrouei, Director of the General Department of Traffic at Dubai Police, addressed the mounting complaints received from various areas across the emirate regarding the disruptive behavior of motorcycle riders, predominantly children.

“Upon investigation, it was observed that a group of children were riding recreational motorcycles, causing disturbances and noise in residential areas,” stated al-Mazrouei. He further noted the close monitoring of civilian patrols, resulting in the confiscation of motorcycles upon the riders’ arrival at their homes.

Moreover, al-Mazrouei highlighted the stringent measures outlined in Decree No. 30 of 2023, specifying a hefty fine of 50,000 Dirhams for the release of confiscated motorcycles used on paved roads. He urged parents to prioritize their children’s safety by refraining from purchasing recreational motorcycles, stressing the inherent risks of accidents associated with their usage.

“Recreational bikes are intended for off-road driving in sandy areas and similar environments,” al-Mazrouei emphasized, expressing concern over their misuse on public roads, posing risks to riders and other commuters.

To tackle this issue, Dubai Police is actively implementing preemptive measures, including the seizure of motorcycles from individuals violating the law by utilizing them on public roads. Al-Mazrouei urged community members to report any such incidents through the ‘Police Eye’ service on the Dubai Police App or by calling the ‘We Are All Police’ hotline at 901.

The directive serves as a reminder for parents to exercise caution and prevent their children from operating motorcycles or recreational bikes on internal and main roads, ultimately ensuring the safety of both the young riders and the wider community.
